Drums is one of my favorite books of the series. I find it very difficult to rate the books on a numerical scale. Each one has its own features, original story, and well developed characters. Good writing is ultimately all about having great characters and DG does a marvelous job with character development in Drums.

Jerry T, I agree that the ending with Brianna and Roger was great, but, like you, I wanted to see Claire's reaction to the letter.Frank mentions that he did not know whether Claire would have stayed if he had given her the choice. What does this indicate about what Frank knew and whether or not he believed? It seems that he could not give Claire a choice if did not believe there was one. What are your thoughts?

Brianna and Roger's relationship is given a lot of screen time in this book. Not sure if I care for these two much and believe in their love. Brianna is a pretty unlikable, spoiled, rash person and a source of almost all misfortunes in the story. And poor Roger. He has to go through a lot of pain and suffering for his love.

Drums of Autumn is another masterpiece in the Outlander series. I cannot stress how much love I have for these books and all the characters within them. And I completely understood Jamie's actions after he finds out what happened to Bri. But I do wish they would have talked earlier about it. But yeah, I also kinda understand why he did not. And dear Lord. Young Ian, what a brave lad he is. A brave young man. I admire his strength and resilience so much. And he always, always makes me smile. Drums of Autumn felt different from the previous three books. There was a gradual shift in the storyline, from Jamie and Claire, to their posterity. In many ways, Jamie and Claire's story end with Voyager. They were finally reunited and for good. So I'm grateful Mrs. Gabaldon has continued to write about these wonderfully complex characters. Allowing us to find out what happens, not only to Jamie and Claire, but to the people they love.
