About this deal

Being allowed to use a battlesuit, particularly the massive XV8 Crisis Battlesuits, is considered a high honour among the T'au Fire Caste, and is only granted to T'au Fire Warriors who have earned the rank and privilege required to be granted this responsibility. Such a privilege can only be attained after several Terran years of progressing through the ranks of the Fire Caste as a Fire Warrior. A Fire Warrior will normally follow a standard rate of progression and advancement in the T'au military that is based around an evaluation of their skills called a " Trial by Fire."

The Kappa Mortis Incident was an important event that contributed to the future use of XV25 Stealthsuits. An Ultramarines strike force sent to the planet of Kappa Mortis managed to recover a single XV15 Stealthsuit helmet from a crashed Aquila Lander bearing captured Tau technology. This forced the Tau Earth Caste to accelerate development of a new type of Stealthsuit, rushing the single-weapon XV25 Stealthsuit into service ahead of the much more difficult to produce XV22 Stealthsuit they had hoped to introduce en masse. This caused XV15 Stealthsuits to become less common in Tau Hunter Cadres due to their replacement as the standard Stealthsuit by the newer XV25. The result was the X-series Battlesuits, the most successful of which has been, and remains, the XV8 Crisis Battlesuit. At present, T'au Battlesuits have never been more successful, and continual upgrades, different marks and variants, as well as new prototypes are continually being developed to advance the Greater Good. You can’t have more drones than non-drone operatives in a given fire team. Eagle-eyed readers here will note that Hunter Cadre teams get access to two options which Pathfinder teams do not: Namely, Guardian Drones and Tactical Support turrets. Strengths

Dal’yth

XV17 Battlesuit - Little is known about this battlesuit other than that it exists, is piloted by a single T'au, and is a form of infiltration suit.

O’Shovah’s mastery of Mont’ka has bled into the martial culture of the Farsight Enclaves. Its warriors are experts in the deadly art of engaging the enemy in close confines. Closer integration of alien auxiliaries sees Dal’yth cadres benefit from shared defensive technologies and unusually well-coordinated tactics. Positional Relay - A Positional Relay digitally records detailed battlefield data and relays it in a tight encrypted radio burst to assets in orbit and squads held in reserve. Information sent usually includes battlefield terrain and status reports to allow the incoming units to make a better decision on where to deploy onto the battlefield and coordinate their actions as part of the overall combat strategy. Shas'vre Nycoss of the Sa'cea Sept, wearing an XV25 Stealthsuit armed with a Burst Cannon T'au Empire Forces Unfortunately, you’re ultimately going to need to draw models from several different boxes to make a fully viable team. The Stealth Suits box is a good place to start, but once you have six of those, look at a box of Breachers and a box of Fire Warriors. If you’ve already got a T’au army you should have plenty of drones but you’ll also get some in each box.

But the utility of a Stealth team isn’t found in its offensive output. One of the most interesting points on the XV25 datasheet is the Infiltrate ability. Stealths may setup anywhere on the board that is not within the opponent’s deployment zone and is more than 12 inches from an enemy unit. Almost any unit with this ability, or something similar, is worth a look in 9th edition 40k. Admittedly, this is a tactic that will only see an opportunity ~10% of the time (stat pulled right out of thin air) and requires a Ghostkeel. Due to the resilience of a Ghostkeel, I’m not convinced that’s necessarily a tax though. Not being aware of this sort of shenanigan could really ruin your day and it breaks the normal deepstrike rules so much I feel it’s worth pointing out. XV15; a Mass-Class 1 stealthsuit that adds additional armour plating to the Fire Warrior armour, as well as servos and support for the weapon systems it carries, not unlike Space Marine Terminator Armour
