Bakewell is actually a small town in Derbyshire in England, where it’s said the Bakewell pudding was invented, which later became a Bakewell tart. Slivered almonds are almonds that have been peeled, split in half, then cut into tiny strips (slivers).We recommend that you read labels, warnings and directions of all products before use and not rely solely on the information provided by iHerb. The blind baking isn’t 100% necessary but will stop the slice from having a “soggy bottom”, a well known faux pas in British baking! This perfect tea-time treat is much easier to make than what you’d possibly expect when looking at the end result. A lovely recipe – I’ve been using a different one for a few years which is ‘ok’ but I think the absence of almond extract actually makes them tastier!
