About this deal

Set in glorious Wales, with a huge and well drawn cast, this beautifully written crime novel is as entertaining as it is twisty. Book two of the Three Dahlias crime fiction series, sees our three heroes, Rosalind, Caro and Posy on a film set in North Wales. An avid reader and notebook collector, her dream was to combine the two hobbies by becoming an author and, after spending her teenage years reading paperback Christies on rainy Welsh caravan holidays, it seemed inevitable that one day she'd try writing her own crime novel.

In between filming scenes, signing autographs for locals, photoshoots in London, talk show appearances and jetting off to France for an impromptu party, the three Dahlias do what they do best - surrupticiously sleuth. In this latest addition to the Dahlia Lively series, A Very Lively Murder, the three Dahlias, Caro, Rosalind, and Posy, are reunited once again and back sleuthing on the set of The Lady Detective when it quickly becomes apparent that there’s a murderer amongst the cast when threats, victims, accidents, and dead bodies all start piling up. The cast is an intriguing mix of British A listers and up and coming talent, with plenty of egos jostling for supremacy leaving Posy unsure whether she has what it takes to be the new Dahlia or whether she really is the washed up child star the world believes her. Now is the time for Posy Starling to shine as her version of Dahlia Lively takes to the small screen. There wasn't a whole lot of character development with the Three Dahlias, although we learned a bit more about Rosalind. This time around our plucky heroines are off to Wales to shoot The Lady Detective, the new movie based on the Dahlia Lively series of mysteries as written by Lettice Davenport from the 1930s to 1960s.

There is a good deal of discussion round the table about whether the director, Anton, is planning to change the identity of the murderer in this new production and whether he is actually entitled to do that. I loved the first book in the series, 'The Three Dahlias', so was pleased to be given access to an advanced copy of the second, so I could discover what the Three Dahlias were up to next. So in cases like these, you forgive the debut mistakes and if it's worth it, you focus on the positive. Overall, A Very Lively Murder is another mysterious, amusing, enjoyable treat by Watson that had just the right amount of suspicious personalities, zany antics, and abundance of drama to keep me engaged and entertained from start to finish.

By the time we reach the final act revelations, we have grown with the characters and the potential for the series going forward is incredibly exciting. And can only hope that one day the author would consider writing them for real 🤞🤞🤞🤞) the writing is good and you become drawn into the story straight away.
