When King Agamemnon saw his daughter proceeding to the altar to her death, he heaved a deep sigh and turned his head to one side and wept. snatched her away and transported her to the Tauroi, making her immortal, and put a stag in place of the girl [Iphigenia] upon the altar. However, the young son of the late king finds out his uncle's treachery and murders him in the palace.

Full marks for the vignette about how the script got out of Albania in the first place - says a lot about how unaware the secret police and state officials were about their own condition when told in the story of life around the times of the Trojan War.In Aulis, the goddess Artemis prevents the fleet from sailing and Agamemnon is faced with a terrible decision: he has to sacrifice either his daughter Iphigeneia or the purpose of his expedition. Clytemnestra confronts Agamemnon, and Iphigeneia begs him for her life, but he fears the wrath of the army and does not relent.

He sent Odysseus and Diomedes to his wife, Clytemnestra (who happened to be Helen’s sister), to tell her that he had arranged a marriage between their daughter, Iphigenia, and the hero Achilles, and that Achilles wished to marry her before he went off to fight. Iphigenia, the Mycenaean princess, whose name is strikingly absent from the title, is lurking behind her father's presence. He mourns his own lost love and considers the fate of Iphigenia, sacrificed by her father before the Trojan War, and of Stalin’s son, abandoned by his father to die as a German POW. After all, if he's been given the parade invitation, does that mean he's also (however unwittingly) offered others up?Reminiscent of the parade in Richard Ford's Independence Day, an unknown first person narrator mixes with the crowd at a May Day celebration, on his way to an invitation only grandstand seat. In Downton Abbey, Lord Grantham compares Lavinia Swire to Iphigenia, being sacrificed by Lady Grantham to marry Matthew Crawley. HNS Awards have helped discover and launch the author careers of Michel Faber, Ruth Downie, Hilary Green, Martin Sutton, Kelleigh Greenberg-Jephcott, Nikki Marmery, Margaret Skea, Warwick Cairns, Katherine Mezzacappa and Elizabeth Macneal. The process of gathering their forces took a few years because the kingdoms were spread out and unconnected.

Achilles, angry that Agamemnon has used him in his plot, vows to help prevent the murder of Iphigenia. Nevertheless, one of the main reasons for the murder of Agamemnon by his wife Clytemnestra is his sacrifice of their daughter Iphigenia, the story of which is told by Euripides in his tragedies Iphigenia in Aulis and Iphigenia in Tauris. The latter had been, apparently, sent to war by Stalin in a gesture implying that all Russians were equal; in fact, says Kadare, Stalin’s gesture had a much more sinister and cynical motivation: the sacrifice of his own son gave him free hand in demanding anyone’s life from then on. In their desire to preserve society from the evil eye, nineteenth-century Turkish authorities pass an edict enforcing the blinding of those suspected of exercising the eye’s maleficent power. In some ways, he is the iron curtain’s equivalent of George Orwell, except for the obvious difference that his experiences were first-hand.
