About this deal

Attacking your opponents: There are generally two ways of harming another player with your dice roll. The plastic dice are sturdy and feature indented icons; the cards are all quite thick; and the cardboard is thick and linen-textured.

The different faces on the dice represent a Gatling gun, which hits all other players if you have rolled three of them, a one and two distance attack which attack other players, beer which heals a player, dynamite which cannot be rerolled and will end your turn while inflicting one point of damage if you roll three of them, and arrows which immediately upon rolling them forces you to take an arrow from the middle (you take wounds equal to your number of arrow once the arrow pile is exhausted). Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that the Renegade is included in the game series, as trying to figure out who is the Renegade and who is the Deputy is the best part of the hidden identity element of the game. There is of course, the dreaded player elimination, but in a game that takes no more than 15 minutes to play this is not a serious issue and more an opportunity for a quick toilet break while the others finish shooting each other. While the cards do exhibit some degree of colour clash across various categories of colour blindness, they show the name of your role prominently and you’ll never be in a position, at least during play, where you need to covertly observe another player’s identity. The sheriff and deputies are trying to kill all the outlaws and renegades, the outlaws are trying to kill the sheriff, and the renegades are trying to kill everyone else. It’s not much of a game for spectators, which is a problem, but since you’re mostly done with a full go in about fifteen minutes it’s not something I’d particularly worry about. The dice game really underscores this dilemma as you must shoot people when you roll the bullseye results. Dynamite: This can’t be re-rolled and if you end up with a 3rd dynamite, that your turn ends immediately and you lose one life point.

It’s also thematic enough and funny enough that most people will have fun with it, so it might also appeal to people who aren’t traditionally as passionate about board/tabletop games. The one lets you shoot a player next to you and the two means you have to shoot a player one space further away. There’s no correspondingly buxon character to Calamity Jane in the male roster, but also she’s not overly objectified. As evidenced by one of my shortest posts ever, this game doesn’t take much time or effort to explain.Bang: The Dice Game uses the same theme and many of the same objectives and rules as the original card game, combining these into a very fast—15 minutes or so—dice rolling affair. Cowboys, astronauts and dinosaurs, but since no one is rushing to send me a brand new copy of High Noon Space Stegosaurus, let us talk about Bang. The rating of a game in terms of its accessibility is not an indication as to its quality as a recreational product. The biggest problem I have with Bang: The Dice Game is that if I have five or more players ready to throw down for a game, I’m almost certainly going to pick something else. The colour of cards is a lot more marked than the text, which is in an awkward font, and if that differentiating factor is lost it will have an impact.

However, the arrow pile was very low, and I knew that if I re-rolled and got too many arrows, I could inadvertently kill myself instead of my opponent. Why not a game where you actually can work to deduce the hidden roles rather than just roll with them as best you can? Limiting the number of actions available makes the symbology of the game short and memorable and really accessible to new players of all ages. We gave it two and a half stars in our review, which is the MLU equivalent of a shrug and a vaguely puzzled look. system is very good about that in general (including its sister game, Samurai Sword), and it really shines in this short game. This does mean that you can “heal yourself” when you’re at full health if you’re trying to waste beers. When the arrow supply is depleted, the Indians attack, inflicting damage on each player equal to the number of arrow counters they possess.

In the event that’s going to be a problem, a group can play with a restricted set without major issue. The catch is the only person who identifies himself is the sheriff so nobody knows who anyone is as you have to figure it out as each player takes a turn.

If the last arrow is taken, the Indians attack and all players lose one hit point for each arrow they hold. You really don’t want to kill an outlaw as an outlaw, and the Sheriff killing the deputy is pretty much the worst possible decision. A common response people have in these sorts of scenario is ‘We’ve played all those other ones to death’ when pointed to better alternatives.
