About this deal

Lediglich das Ende fand ich eher mau: Die Gegner sind plötzlich knüppelhart und ich bin nicht hardcore genug, um wegen ein bisschen Würfelpech am Schluss das ganze Ding nochmal von vorne durchzurauschen. Since Fighting Fantasy’s huge success, he has become a major figure in world of computer games, and is currently Creative Director of Eidos, the name behind Tomb Raider. Der schreckliche Zanbar Bone bedroht die Einwohner des heimeligen Örtchens, in dem du auf deiner Reise Rast eingelegt hast.

Rowland reviewed City of Thieves for the January 1984 issue of White Dwarf, rating the title 8 out of a possible 10. I’m fairly sure that the ball was a leaded weight, and it was actually an impressive feat of gladiatorial skill which set the body to its limits… but as far as I’m concerned, we were just playing volleyball, because I won with great ease and made some nice gold. And the artwork of Iain McCaig is some of the best in the entire series (I do wish he'd have drawn stuff for more books). Unfortunately, when we got to the tattooist we were ONE GOLD SHORT of affording the white unicorn in a yellow sun forehead tattoo we needed to carry forward. I don't think there is one right way to go through, but some choices are definitely important in all possible routes.

One could suggest that this is another assassination job, though it is clear that Bone is a bully and needs to be taught a lesson, and of course you are the one who has to teach him a lesson. This is a solo outing from Ian Livingstone, who devised some of the series' best adventures, and it's another winner.

I have played it on the Kindle - and, after easily getting through most of the story, I am getting stomped by some fights at the end of the book that just seem to require a lot of luck to get through. It was now my firm opinion that Candle Street is the Arkham Asylum of Port Blacksand, so I promised never to go back there again, and instead walked in the opposite direction as fast as I could. My trouble began at the city gates, where one of the city’s guards refused to let me into the city until I’d bribed him. Well, I suppose I had to encounter the naked pirate earlier… some mental images you just don’t want to live with.
