About this deal

Quote from: translateltd on July 08, 2009, 09:25:54 PMI understand that at least some of the 20 million 1965 Churchill crowns were put into circulation, but were probably put aside before they passed through too many hands. Members from this site want to exchange it: Eureka, floyd1, pyros09100, Joe-breuille, Pipo7, Spatri, Crapgamer, Arnhemcoin, Andrej-Oslo, rmj, YnCaptan, Haigbill, WyldStallyns, superman43, Or3s7as, J-J. Four hundred years later, on the occasion of the Festival of Britain, the Royal Mint has issued a Crown piece, bearing on its edge the date 1851-1951 in Roman numerals, and a Latin inscription CIVIUM INDUSTRIA FLORET CIVITAS - "By the industry of its people the State flourishes". Our specialists are experienced at assessing preservation and identifying details that distinguish a common coin from a valuable one.

The 1937 Coronation Crown would have been issued for circulation, but they would have been saved by the public as a momento of King George VI's coronation. They also issued a special Crown for King George VI, only the second crown struck for this monarch in this country.Commonly referred to as the ‘Festival of Britain crown’, it features Humphrey Paget’s portrait of the monarch on the obverse and Benedetto Pistrucci’s St George and the dragon design on the reverse.

This particular coin is beautifully packaged in its own small box, an original dark red Royal Mint Festival of Britain 1951.

The figures of George and the dragon are from a design by Benedetto Pistrucci, first used in the Mint's new gold sovereign of 1817. Maybe the level of attention given to the topic was minimal but perhaps they believe not much more is needed. Please note that as the items we sell are antique or vintage, most of them will have been used for the purpose that was intended. The historic financial performance of Bullion is not indicative of and does not guarantee future financial performance. These coins were only minted in Proof condition, but sadly it is very difficult to find an unblemished copy; they pick up fingerprints extremely well!
