About this deal

The [Galaxy S8+](/compare/5416300/samsung-galaxy-s8-plus.html """") was one of the best smartphones to ever hit the shelves. The challenge: how to build a product that tops it. The Samsung Galaxy S9+ Dual SIM is trying to do just that. It offers several new features, mostly in the area of photography, as well as noticeably improved speakers and a more powerful processor. Samsung Galaxy S9+ Dual SIM: Worth an Upgrade? Phase detection, Geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video and 9MP image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama, Video (2160p@60fps, 1080p@60fps, 720p@960fps, HDR, dual-video rec) Travel Recommendations: Activate GPS, and Bixby will provide you with sightseeing and entertainment suggestions. Point your camera at a landmark to receive more information on it.

We've used Bixby Vision a number of times during our S9 Plus testing period here at the T3 office, and we've done so with a wide selection of languages, too, including Spanish, Italian and Japanese. And on the whole we've been impressed with the speed and quality of translation.Live Translation: Point the camera at a text in a foreign language, and Bixby will display it in your native tongue. Display Size: Screen measured diagonally as a full rectangle without accounting for the rounded corners Don't fix what isn't broken. Samsung has made a few minor tweaks, including moving the fingerprint sensor to a more ergonomic position and slimming down the bezels even further, but otherwise the design of the Samsung Galaxy S9+ Dual SIM is nearly identical to that of the S8+. The aluminium and glass housing measures 158 x 74 x 9 mm (HWD) and features the the tall 18.5:9 format, but at 189 g, the phone is noticeably heavier. The 6.2 inch Infinity Display with Quad HD (2960 x 1440) resolution has also been left untouched. The phone is still IP68 dust and water resistant. And that’s it design-wise – you won’t readily notice anything else that’s new on the outside of the S9 Plus. The dimensions have changed by a few millimeters to reduce the top and bottom bezels, making the phone a tiny bit shorter than the S8 Plus, but it’s still a really big phone.

The extra 2GB of RAM over the standard Galaxy S9 (6GB) is also a good fit, and the 3,500mAh battery, while not noteworthy, will deliver similar levels of performance we're guessing to the S8 Plus, which itself was comfortably in a day's usage range with moderate use. Naturally, until we can test the battery fully in our full fat review, we will withhold any definite judgement. A second new feature is super slow motion video. Video can now be captured at 960 fps in 720p, 240 fps in Full HD, or 60 fps in 4K. An automatic mode has also been added. This begins filming as soon as soon as motion is detected. The same luxurious and premium melding of metal frame and glass is still in evidence, however, and as with the S9 if you look closely you will see that the Galaxy S9 Plus's bezels are now slightly reduced, shaving a little off the phone's total height. Despite the large number of specifications that remain the same, Samsung has included a few significant upgrades. These include: Overall, though, if you want the best big phone on the market right now (and, Note 9 aside, maybe the year) then the Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus is the obvious choice. It is superbly well equipped and, from our time with the phone, it has already gone a long, long way to winning our approval.Headline feature of the S9+ Dual SIM is the dual lens / dual aperture camera. The dual aperture technology functions like the human eye. By sensing how much ambient light is available, it automatically changes the f-stop. Under favourable lighting conditions, the aperture closes to f/2.4. In dim conditions, it opens to f/1.5, wider than any other smartphone currently available. This allows 28% more light to hit the lens, improving images significantly. Choosing between the f/2.4 and the f/1.5 apertures manually is also possible via Pro Mode in the control settings. Face Detection, Smile Detection, Burst Mode, Panorama, HDR, Night Mode, Automatic Mode, Bokeh Mode, Portrait Mode, Pro Mode, Variable Aperture, Slow Motion, Time Lapse We thought the 5.8-inch Super AMOLED screen on the regular sized Samsung Galaxy S9 was superb, but here, with a huge 6.2-inches of real estate, it just looks stunning. The brightness, contrast, and definition of the panel just blew us away, and the vibrancy of colour too was remarkable. It really is the best smartphone screen in the world right now. Proximity Sensor, Light Sensor, Gyroscope Sensor, Accelerometer (G-Sensor), Magnetometer, IRIS Sensor, Barometer, Pulse Oximeter, Fingerprint Sensor, Heart Rate Monitor

Estimated against the usage profile of an average/typical user. Independently assessed by Strategy Analytics between 2021.12.08–12.20 in USA and UK with pre-release versions of SM-S901, SM-S906, SM-S908 under default setting using 5G Sub6 networks (NOT tested under 5G mmWave network). Actual battery life varies by network environment, One of the first things that would attract you to this smartphone is its body design. Just one look at this smartphone and you would see the amount of care and work that went into its production. The metal frame of the phone is built with an upgraded aluminum material that is good enough to resist any form of scratch, there is a satin gloss finish to the metallic material that gives the body of the phone a soft, classy and shiny look. Camera And Battery Setting up Bixby is straightforward - grant it some permissions, train it to recognise your voice, and you're away.

And, obviously, all the extra features Samsung has brought to the S9 range are as good if not better to enjoy on a larger and fractionally more powerful phone. Creating AR Emoji on the phone is fast and fun, and taking and viewing photos and videos - notably the new 960fps Super Slow-mo videos - on the larger screen a pleasurable experience. Over the years, it has been established that Samsung sets the pace with its cameras. The camera built for the Samsung Galaxy S9 is mind-blowing. The device comes with a 12MP rear camera and additional features like Geo-tagging, simultaneous 4K video, and 9MP image recording, touch focus, face/smile detection, Auto HDR, panorama and a lot more that is tailored to give you fantastic digital photos. The camera is designed to switch automatically between two aperture seizures, you are sure to have a beautiful picture irrespective of the angle that it was taken from. You don't have to worry about taking pictures in low light conditions, with its flash superb, you are assured of having excellent digital photos. If you’re a camera geek or a photographer who is looking for a phone that can deliver, then you should consider getting this phone, the camera is designed in such a way that it is easier to switch through different modes within seconds. The Samsung Galaxy S9 also comes with an 8MP front camera and additional features like autofocus, and Auto HDR that captures brilliant selfies. The Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus comes with the same 3,500mAh battery as was included in the S8 Plus. As we mention in our S9 review, we were definitely hoping for an improvement here in terms of capacity but from our time with the phone we are fine with its performance. You’re still going to have to stretch your fingers to touch the corners of the screen furthest from your grip – navigating Google Maps on the go, for example, can be a cumbersome affair – so if you’ve been hesitant to buy into big-screen phones your best option is the smaller Galaxy S9. This is a big phone meant for big mitts.
